Boilermaker of the month June 2019
Glenlivet 12 Year Old and Bad co DIPA 2, a subtle fruit taste goes a long way…
By Owain Brennan
We have decided to start a list of boilermakers which we enjoy and will he releasing them weekly every Wednesday!
If you dont know a boilermaker is a type of cocktail that is simply a beer with a whiskey which goes well with it.
It’s believed the drink takes its name from the workers who built and maintained steam locomotives in the 1800s. These workers were known to head to the bar at the end of a shift, and a shot of whiskey with a beer became a staple for quickly easing the pain that came from a hard day of back-breaking labour.
For this first week the beer of chocie is the Bad co Brewery Off Tempo DIPA 2 which sits at a strong 7.4! This DIPA has a fruity taste to it with earthy malts and a dry finish, currently availbale at Brennan’s Bar along with 4 others from the Bad Co Brewery range for £3.50 a can
As for the Whiskey in this boiler maker we have decided to go for the Glenlivet 12 Year Old, this scotch has a soft smooth balance of sweet summer fruits and the floral nots of spring flowers.
The subtle taste of fruit in both the DIPA 2 and the Glenlivet 12 Year old go together perfectly as a way to kickstart your Summer even when the wet Stockton Weather is getting you down!
